Our Vaccine Philosophy

At the Kennesaw Pediatrics Newborn Center, our practice believes that all children should receive the recommended vaccines according to the guidelines provided by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Centers for Disease Control. Vaccines are safe and effective in preventing diseases and health complications in children and young adults. Regular vaccinations help children ward off infections, and are administered as one of the safest and best methods of disease prevention.  We are happy to discuss your concerns about vaccines at your child’s next visit.

Our Commitment to Vaccine Safety

At Kennesaw Pediatrics, we take vaccine safety very seriously. We use a system of two person verification that goes well beyond the required medical standard. Our system ensures that vaccines are given at the correct age and correctly spaced. It also ensures that the identification number of the actual vial used is correctly recorded in the child’s medical record.

We strongly recommend the AAP / CDC vaccination schedule. We also respect the right of each family to choose what is best for their child. Therefore we will not discharge a patient based solely on their decision to decline or delay vaccines or to choose an alternative schedule. At well checks, we will fully discuss each recommended vaccine with the patient’s family and answer any questions. Families declining vaccines or using an alternative schedule will be asked to sign an acknowledgement that the vaccine was offered.

Also, vaccine only office visits for a child on an alternative schedule will be made with a doctor or nurse practitioner, rather than with nursing staff alone. This is part of our commitment to vaccine safety. With so many alternative schedules now is use, including individualized schedules, this allows our providers the time to fully review the vaccines the child has received and which ones the parents wish to receive. Then we can make sure the vaccines given are properly spaced and correctly matched to the schedule used.

Vaccine schedules

Kennesaw Pediatrics Newborn Center supports and follows the immunization guidelines recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).  The AAP believes that vaccines are one of the most successful medical advances of all time, but understands that parents may have questions about vaccines and their children.  AAP is not able to provide information regarding individual children and their medical conditions, but the following resources are provided as background for a dialogue with your child’s pediatrician. Visit the AAP’s immunization web site for answers to your questions about vaccines.

The following schedules indicate the recommended ages for routine administration of currently licensed vaccines for children. Any dose not administered at the recommended age should be administered at a subsequent visit, when indicated and feasible.
